Overview

Centrus Energy is looking for an innovator who thrives on solving complex electrical challenges and turning big ideas into real-world solutions. As a Sr. Electronics Design Engineer, you’ll dive into advanced instrumentation, motor controls, and power electronics to help us design, deploy, and optimize critical systems for our manufacturing and enrichment facilities. If you love tinkering with everything from simulation tools to modern power electronics devices — and want your designs to make a big impact — this role puts you at the center of it all.

Responsibilities

As the leader of our control electronics team, you’ll take ownership of the entire lifecycle of advanced electronic systems — from initial concept through design, development, and deployment. This role blends technical expertise with leadership, requiring you to innovate, mentor, and collaborate across disciplines to ensure our centrifuge technology meets the highest standards of reliability and performance. Your work will directly support the Department of Energy’s mission and help shape the future of our industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end development of control electronics systems, from concept through deployment.
  • Design and validate electronic circuits using tools such as PSPICE and MATLAB.
  • Create comprehensive design packages and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Run simulations and troubleshoot systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Mentor and guide engineering teams, fostering technical growth and collaboration.
  • Conduct system walk-downs to identify and resolve technical issues in real time.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, balancing cost, schedule, and technical performance.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to integrate electronics with mechanical and software systems.
  • Drive innovation in centrifuge technology, aligning with DOE mission objectives.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert, ensuring machines and teams operate smoothly and reliably.

Qualifications

We’d Love to Hear from People With:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering plus 6+ years of experience in industrial electronics (preferably with emphasis on PEEM design)
  • 1+ years’ experience in manufacturing, embedded systems design, and/or R&D
  • Strong skills across electrical systems, from low-voltage DC to three-phase AC
  • Proficiency in simulation and analysis tools (e.g., PSPICE, MATLAB, Simulink, OrCAD)
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
  • Ability to obtain (or already possess) a “Q” clearance

A Successful Candidate Brings:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electrical Engineering with 12+ years’ experience in industrial electronics
  • 4+ years’ experience in the nuclear industry
  • Knowledge of industrial plant electrical systems, national electrical codes, and standards (UL, IEEE, NEC, ANSI, OSHA, NUREGS)
  • Experience with electric motor design/manufacturing
  • Background in embedded software development and testing
  • A passion for mentoring and leading within multi-disciplinary teams

Currently possesses a “Q” or “L” clearance
